Impetigo is a skin infection that is most common in children. It is caused by bacteria that get into scrapes or insect bites.
What is impetigo?
Impetigo is a highly contagious skin infection caused by either Staphylococcus aureus (staph) bacteria or group A Streptococcus (strep) bacteria that mainly affects infants and young children.
A child with impetigo should not share towels, clothes, face cloths, bedding, toys, or personal items such as combs or brushes with anyone else.
