The benefits of simulation

Improve communication and care processes within care teams

  • It's an opportunity for interdisciplinary care teams to practice unusual and complex scenarios so they are better prepared for these events, gain clarity on roles, and practice specific skills to improve patient care processes and outcomes (e.g. mock codes, anaphylactic reactions)

Improve clinical skills within professional/student groups

  • Professionals and students can practice skills before trying them on patients and improve on existing skills.

Support risk assessment/management

  • Teams can run simulations and debrief specific adverse events to identify areas for improvement for future events (risk management and mitigation).

Potential to support rural and remote care

  • It's an opportunity to support care in rural and remote communities, to support professionals and student learning, and to improve care in those environments.

Research new care and technologies

  • Care teams can use the simulation environment and/or equipment to test new equipment or care processes before introducing them into the clinical environment.

Simulation-based courses we support

  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program
  • MoreOB – Managing Obstetric Risk Efficiently
  • STRUC – Simulation Trauma Resuscitation Update Course
  • Mock code blues
  • In-situ simulations on units: Pediatrics, Emergency, ICU, PAR, and OR.
