Dogwood Transitional Care Unit (DTCU) is a short-stay care unit for patients waiting to go to long-term care or to secure community services.

When a patient no longer needs the level of care of an acute care (hospital) site, their care team will determine if their needs can be temporarily met at the Dogwood Transitional Care Unit.

Supports at DTCU include assistance with personal care and toileting, medication management, supervised/group walks to outdoor gardens, and activities with recreation staff, such as arts and crafts, movement and music, sensory activities, and more. Meals are provided and personal laundry is available. All rooms are private with shared bathrooms.

Please note that DTCU is located inside Dogwood Lodge. Dogwood Lodge is a different building than Dogwood Care Home.

Dogwood Lodge

Dogwood Lodge is a former long-term care home in south Vancouver that now provides temporary space for VCH programs, such as the Dogwood Transitional Care Unit, and Dogwood Lodge Hospice. It was previously home to 113 residents, until the development of Dogwood Care Home, which is located on the same property.

Convalescent Care

Convalescent care or transitional care is a short-term residential service available for people who have been in hospital and no longer require acute hospital care but who need a little more time to recover. It is provided through our Transitional Care Units (TCU). The length of stay depends on your needs but is usually less than three months.
