Harm reduction: Toward the Heart

Provides inpatient psychiatric care, including individual work and groups for adults aged 19 and older who need acute 24-hour management in a hospital setting.

What to expect

Care focuses on active short-term assessment and treatment from a client-centered interdisciplinary team approach.

The unit provides assessment and treatment to adults ages 19 and over who require acute 24-hour management in a hospital setting. On a case by case basis, the unit can support individuals going through medically supervised detox of substance use.

The patient will have 24-hour nursing care, and access to social work during their stay. The patient can expect their family physician (or an assigned physician on admission) to direct their plan of care while consulting with the Psychiatrist until discharge.

This service works closely with other mental health and substance use services to connect the client with the proper team for continuity of care that will work for that individual and their goals of care.
