What to expect
An examination involves administering radioactive material via intravenous injection, inhalation or ingestion. Depending on the body organ being tested, imaging occurs immediately or up to several days after administering the material.
There are rarely any side effects. Except in very unusual circumstances, patients can drive home on their own.
