Orthotic and prosthetic services assess each patient’s needs and provide orthoses and prostheses to meet those needs.
Vancouver Prosthetic and Orthotics is an approved provider of prosthetic and othotic treatments and services of Vancouver Coastal Health, with one site located on G.F. Strong premises.
An orthosis (plural: orthoses) is an orthopedic brace, while a prosthesis, (plural: prostheses) is an artificial limb.
What to expect
We take a multidisciplinary approach to your care. We will collaborate to formulate and implement the best treatment plan according to your goals, activity level and lifestyle. Depending on the patient’s requirements, the team may include the following:
- Physician: A sub-specialized medical expert trained to manage complex medical and technical biomechanics for optimal functional outcomes.
- Prosthetist: A health care professional specifically educated and trained to measure, design, fabricate, fit, or service prostheses as prescribed by a licensed physician.
- Orthotist: A health care professional specifically educated and trained to measure, design, fabricate, fit, or service orthoses as prescribed by a licensed physician.
- Therapists: Health care professionals are specifically educated and trained to rehabilitate patients and prepare them to safely use their prosthetic and orthotic devices.
Our services include:
- education about the various prostheses and orthoses available;
- evaluating, designing, fabricating, fitting, and adjusting orthoses and/or prostheses;
- training the patient and their family on the proper wear and care of your orthosis or prosthesis; and
- providing follow-up care as needed.
