MoDe provides non-police same-day mental health and substance use crisis support to people ages 17 and older in Vancouver. A person may be experiencing or nearing a mental health crisis, and may or may not actively use substances.

At this time, MoDe services are limited to pre-identified referral partners from Housing/Shelter and Community Service providers only. If you are an individual needing urgent assistance, please call 9-1-1. 

Overview

MoDe is not for people who are actively putting their own lives, or the physical safety of others, at risk. For an emergency, please call 9-1-1 or visit your nearest hospital. 

MoDe provides non-police, same-day crisis response to people in Vancouver. The team travels to the person’s location. In addition, MoDe provides: 

  • Health-care assessments and interventions
  • Referrals to health services, which may be with Vancouver Coastal Health or other service providers.
  • Short-term follow-up support to clients we have responded to. 

Who is eligible

MoDe is a non-police, mental health and substance use crisis response service.  MoDe provides same-day outreach to individuals in Vancouver.   

MoDe is for people who are: 

  • Aged 17+ and located in Vancouver 
  • Experiencing or nearing a mental health crisis with or without active substance use (including a situational, emotional, or behavioural crisis) 
  • Requiring an urgent in-person intervention that cannot be provided by their regular care team (e.g. Mental Health & Substance Use Team) or an alternate crisis service (e.g. BC crisis line, Access and Assessment Centre) 
  • Not actively attempting suicide or putting the physical safety of others at risk
