Allied Health students
Information and requirements for Allied Health students.
Allied Health includes Clinical Counselling, Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Rehabilitation Assistant, Recreation Therapy, Social Work, Speech Language Pathology.
The following clinical systems are used across the health authority. Please check the sections below to see which systems apply to your practicum’s location.
- CST Cerner - shared clinical information system used to access patient information and support defined clinical workflows through automation of information delivery and health-care task requests.
- PARIS - client-centred health record used in Acute, Community and Long-Term Care homes.
- Patient Care Information System (PCIS) - primary health information system supporting staff, when caring for patients, with electronic information
- Profile EMR - electronic medical record system, especially for complex patients/clients with many interdisciplinary caregivers.
- CareConnect - secure, view-only Electronic Health Record (EHR) that offers authorized care providers 24/7 access to an integrated, provincial view of clinical information. Important: CareConnect access is not provisioned for Allied student placements.
Access to clinical systems
Vancouver General Hospital, UBC Hospital, Richmond Hospital, GF Strong, George Pearson Centre, Lions Gate Hospital and Squamish General Hospital
CST Cerner
Lions Gate Hospital (including Evergreen Residential Care) and Squamish Hospital (including Hilltop Residential Care) require all students to have training in order to access CST Cerner to document care.

Prerequisite on-line modules must be complete before attending training and can be accessed via the Learning Hub. In addition, information about your classroom training which will take place on your first or second day on site will be available in your Learning Hub account.

Important: To complete the online training, you will be required to set up a Learning Hub account or reuse the existing one if it has already been set up.
- All students need to have only one Learning Hub account, and this one account needs to have just your school email address while you are completing your placement at VCH.
- All students should ensure this information in the Learning Hub account is accurate at least one month before their placement start dates, to ensure you are set up correctly for training and access to our clinical systems.
- Learn how to merge your accounts or update your health organization.
PARIS (Social Work Only)
The PARIS training is offered on the Learning Hub. The online training is self-paced and takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete. It can be accessed on any computer with internet access.

Profile EMR (Social Work Only)
Profile EMR training for students is offered as a self-paced online course on the Learning Hub. Upon completion of the course, you will also be redirected to the account request form.

Patient Care Information System (PCIS)
Important: Effective January 2022, Allied Health students will no longer have access to PCIS. The below training can be taken for educational purposes only.
- RT, PT, OT STUDENTS ONLY - PCIS VA/RH Basics – Online. Includes Emergency Dept census and WebDI (PACS)
- All other Student Allied Health Roles - PCIS VA/RH Basics – Online
- PCIS training - VA/Richmond Training Information (oneVCH Intranet access required)
