Information and requirements for Health Unit Coordinator students
Access to clinical systems
Different areas have different expectations when it comes to training for clinical information systems. Please double check with your preceptor four weeks before starting to confirm what is needed.
Important: Effective January 2022, Health Unit Coordinator students will no longer have access to PCIS. The below training can be taken for educational purposes only.
Vancouver General Hospital, University of British Columbia Hospital, Richmond Hospital, GF Strong, George Pearson Centre
Patient Care Information System (PCIS)
- PCIS VA/RH Clinical Basics – Online. Includes transfers, discharges, Emergency Census, WebDI as required by role

PCIS training - VA/Richmond Training Information (oneVCH Intranet access required)
Additional courses required at UBC
- PCIS Registration Day 1 (Basics & Outpatient Registration) - Includes Search procedure|EMPI client identity, Outpatient/Inpatient/ED and Basics and Results, Patient Transfers and Discharges.

PCIS Registration Day 2 (Inpatient & Emergency Registration) - ED Registration, Pre-Admits, Admits, Discharges
Important
PCIS Access and Training is no longer required in the areas using CST Cerner as of November 5, 2022. For more information, please refer to VCH CST Split Activation: What you need to know.
